Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer has admitted he believes he belongs in the Premier League after playing there last year.

The 27-year-old had a taste of Premier League football last season when he joined Sheffield United in the top flight in a €17.3m deal.

It proved to be a miserable experience, though, as the Blades were promptly relegated back to the Championship, finishing bottom of the table with 16 points, 16 points from safety.

That was not a good year for anyone in that squad as they failed to make the step up to the required level having impressed in the Championship the season before.

Hamer, though, could comfortably be described as their best player across the campaign after managing four goals and six assists in 36 Premier League games that season. Indeed, he was voted as Player of the Year in the club’s end of season awards, as well as winning their Goal of the Season Award.

And when asked if he thinks he’s capable of playing at that level, he admitted he feels last season showed that he can.

_“I think that I can definitely handle it, personally. Because, well, we played in the Premier League last year of course, and I’ve already been able to show myself a bit in terms of scoring goals, creating chances, um, and all that, things like that._

_“So yeah, I do think I belong in the Premier League myself.”_
