What is the earliest known human fossil found in the Philippines?
According to Kuya Kim's report on "24 Oras," Thursday, among the earliest known human remains found in the country was discovered in Tabon Cave, Quezon, Palawan in 1962.
Named Tabon Man, the fossil was said to have lived 47,000 years ago.
In 2007, 2011, and 2015, more fossils were discovered in Callao Cave in Cagayan, which were said to be older than Tabon Man.
Called Callao Man, the seven teeth and six small bones were found to have lived 67,000 years ago. The new species was named Homo luzonensis.
Meanwhile, recently in Spain, a facial fossil was found inside a cave that was said to have lived 1.1 to 1.4 million years old.
Nicknamed Pink, it is now the oldest known fossil in Western Europe. It is more primitive than those of the Homo antecessor that lived in Europe around 800,000 to 1.2 million years ago.
The fossil has similarities to Homo erectus, which was the first human species to migrate from Africa.
But because the fossil was only a small piece, experts are still studying if Pink is part of an unidentified ancient human species. **—Carby Rose Basina/MGP, GMA Integrated News**
