Liverpool will be looking to sign prolific striker Alexander Isak in the summer
Liverpool are having a season to remember under new manager Arne Slot. The Reds sit first in the Premier League and have a 15-point cushion at the top. With one hand already on the trophy, the Reds will look to win it as early as possible, with a few games to spare.
Arne Slot’s side has been consistent in the league and has just lost once this season. With legendary winger Mohamed Salah having his best-ever campaign for the English club and the defence looking so solid on all fronts, life has never been so good for a Liverpool fan.
Nunez looks set to leave Liverpool in the summer
However, it has not been smooth sailing all the time. Arne Slot has failed to bring out the best in some players, most noticeably Uruguay international Darwin Nunez. The 25-year-old missed a crucial penalty that led to Liverpool being knocked out of the Champions League by PSG at Anfield.
As per Sofascore, the ex-Benfica striker has just scored seven goals and provided five assists in 39 games in all competitions. The Liverpool forward has not been getting enough game time as well and has an XG (expected goals) of only 7.68 this season, which is quite low for a team that scores goals for fun.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Darwin Nunez is said to be leaving the club in the summer after his move to Saudi was blocked in January by the English club. Romano had also reported that Liverpool could not find a replacement for the Uruguay international in time and had to block the deal in January.
Isak to replace Nunez at Liverpool?
With Darwin Nunez’s career at Liverpool seems to be all but over, the Reds will be looking to find a replacement as soon as possible. Nunez missed his penalty in the penalty shootout against PSG that led to the Reds getting knocked out of the Champions League and that pretty much summed up his Anfield career.
The 25-year-old will be looking for a move in the summer, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have identified Newcastle United’s star striker Alexander Isak to replace Nunez. However, the Reds face some competition from Arsenal for Isak’s signature.
Isak has been in scintillating form this season and as per Sofascore, the Sweden international has scored 22 goals and registered five assists in 32 games in all competitions. The 25-year-old is one of the best forwards in the world currently and is a perfect replacement for the outgoing Nunez.
When talking about the possibility of Isak joining Liverpool on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano said,
“For sure, Alexander Isak is the priority for Liverpool and are closely monitoring him. Liverpool and also Arsenal will be in the mix for the player, and it really depends on what Newcastle decides regarding the player’s future.”
Fabrizio also said that Newcastle United do not consider Isak for sale and if Liverpool want to buy the talented striker, they will have to pay a huge sum to secure his services.

Arne Slot’s side will be a force to reckon with if Liverpool somehow manages to land Isak. The Reds will have a very good attacker who is a reliable finisher, a good dribbler and a proper team player.
