Manchester United injury news as comeback star set to face Leicester City

Former Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire should have a chance to deepen the club’s relegation woes as he makes his injury comeback at the King Power Stadium.

Maguire has been a regular at United since Ruben Amorim took charge, but has missed their last two games, the draws with Real Sociedad and Arsenal, and has been ruled out of the second leg of the Europa League tie against the Spanish side on Thursday night.

However, United boss Amorim is hoping the defender will be in contention to play when the Red Devils travel to the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Maguire has already knocked City out of the FA Cup, scoring a last-minute winner at Old Trafford last month, one of three defeats City have suffered against United this season.

If he was to score again, or help United keep a clean sheet to stop City scoring for the seventh straight home league match, then it would leave his former side in big trouble.

A defeat for City could leave them nine points off safety with nine games to go, with Wolves favourites to win when they host Southampton on Saturday.

Maguire’s fellow centre-back Leny Yoro won’t be fit to face City, but Manuel Ugarte, back in the squad for the game against Real Sociedad, will be. Mason Mount has only just returned to training.

“Mason Mount is too soon,” Amorim said on Wednesday when discussing his team news for Real Sociedad.

“Leny is out. Harry cannot play this one but I hope to have him for Sunday. Manu is in the squad. Leny is not long-term but he cannot play this game or the next one.”

While City do already have a trio of defeats against United, this weekend’s game is among the best opportunities they have for a win during the run-in.

United are 14th in the table, whereas City’s four opponents after that – Man City, Newcastle, Brighton and Liverpool – are all in the top seven.
