Flamengo are rubbing their hands ahead of the summer as Liverpool, Manchester United clubs from Italy eyeing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder João Gomes.
That’s according to Gazete do Urubu, who report that Gomes is ‘close to Liverpool’ and Flamengo could receive a ‘millionaire amount’ from any deal.
They explain that the former Flamengo midfielder is currently attracting interest from major European clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester United both keen on the midfielder.
Liverpool are currently the ‘main interested party’ but Manchester United are in the mix as are unnamed sides from Italy.
All signs are pointing towards a move in the summer transfer window worth around €60m, something that has Flamengo rubbing their hands.
They would be receive around 10% of that transfer plus another 4% through FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, meaning they would get around €8.4m from a €60m sale.
Liverpool see Gomes as a ‘strategic addition’, and it is this which puts them out in front for the Wolves man at this moment in time.
Wolves are fully aware of the developing interest and the player’s value and will only accept negotiations for €60m or more. The hope is that competition between the clubs, potentially the Reds and rivals Manchester United, can make the deal even more profitable for them and potentially Flamengo.
