Manchester City Set To Battle Rivals Man United For£42 Million Kyle Walker Replacement

Manchester City are reportedly set to battle Manchester United to sign Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

City are likely to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window in order to replace Kyle Walker, who is currently on loan at AC Milan.

Walker left for Milan in January and has since made five Serie A appearances. Due to the fact that he’s 34-years-old, it looks as though his City career is all but over.

Pep Guardiola will want to find a long-term replacement for the England international, and that could come in the form of Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

According to TeamTalk, City are tracking the 24-year-old alongside rivals Manchester United. Barcelona and Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the Dutchman.

Frimpong is already very familiar with City as he spent his youth career in the set-up at the Etihad, before joining Celtic in 2019. He moved to Leverkusen in 2021, and has since made over 180 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

The full-back plays on the right hand side as more of a wing back meaning that he would fit into both City and Man United’s systems very well. His market value is estimated to be around £42 million.

Manchester City keen on fellow Bundesliga Dutchman

Frimpong isn’t the only Dutch star in the Bundesliga that City are reportedly keen on signing in the summer transfer window.

RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons has emerged as a target for the Sky Blues, as he looks set to leave the German club in the summer.

Simons has made 24 appearances for Leipzig this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. He is expected to be worth around £67 million. Simons has also been linked to Manchester United and Liverpool in the past.
