Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy suffered a muscle injury during the second leg of the round-of-16 tie against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, Real Madrid announced on Thursday afternoon. He could be out for three to four weeks, according to reports from Spain.
Mendy went down during the second half of the match that went all the way to the penalty shootouts, and was replaced by Fran Garcia.
Here is the official statement that the club had put out:
“Following tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the hamstring of his left leg. The outcome is pending.”
Real Madrid will have to rely on Garcia for the next four games at the very least. Mendy and the club are slightly fortunate as this comes just before the international break, so he will have time to recover from the injury.
He could be back before the first leg against Arsenal.
