Pittsburgh Steelers Sign Another Veteran QB Amid Aaron Rodgers’ Drama

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a decision to sign a veteran quarterback amid negotiation drama with Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has a few teams on his radar in free agency. He’s been linked to the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and Steelers.

Money appeared to be an obstacle between the Steelers and Rodgers earlier in the week.

Per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rodgers is no longer worried about signing with the Steelers because of cash. He’s just buying time to make his decision.

“Apparently, the delay in the Aaron Rodgers discussion with the Steelers is not about money,” Dulac posted on X. “The offer has been made. It’s about Rodgers taking his good ol’ time about making a decision.”

While Rodgers is taking his time in free agency, the Steelers moved to sign another veteran quarterback.

Per Mike Garofolo and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Steelers signed Mason Rudolph to a two-year deal worth $8 million, $4.5 million will be guaranteed.

“A Steel City reunion: QB Mason Rudolph has agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal with $4.5 million to return to theSteelers, sources tell me and@RapSheet,” Garofolo posted on X. “Rudolph mulled multiple offers, including a return to theTitans, but was motivated to head back to Pittsburgh.”

The Steelers selected Rudolph with the No. 76 pick in the 2018 draft. The Oklahoma State standout spent 2024 with the Tennessee Titans.

At 29, Rudolph has appeared in 29 games and started in 18. He’s thrown for 4,615 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions.

He started in three games for the Steelers in 2023 while he had the hot hand as Kenny Pickett recovered from an injury. He was the starter in Pittsburgh’s wild card loss to the Buffalo Bills in the 2023 postseason.

Per Garafolo, the Steelers are still trying to sign Rodgers.

“TheSteelers remain in the mix for Aaron Rodgers,” Garafolo posted on X. “But they valued Rudolph and want him as part of their QB mix no matter what. So they locked him down before anyone else could.”
