CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns new quarterback Kenny Pickett pulled no punches in his introductory video conference Thursday.
“I do see myself as a starter,” Pickett said.
He said he’s up for competing with Russell Wilson if he signs with the Browns, or a rookie quarterback such as Shedeur Sanders if they take one at No. 2 or later in the draft.
Pickett said the Browns told him that he’d have a chance to “compete to be a starter.”
He also noted that he’s training in Florida right now with receiver Jerry Jeudy, who made his first Pro Bowl and notched his first 1,000 yard season last year.
He declined to say why he asked the Steelers to trade him last year only two years after they picked him No. 20 overall out of Pitt. They accommodated him, shipping him to the Eagles in an exchange of picks.
Pickett earned a Super Bowl ring in February for the Eagles' 40-22 victory over the Chiefs, getting in the game in the final minutes for a pass, a handoff and a kneeldown.
Pickett also said he’s ready to compete even if the Browns draft a rookie at No. 2 overall such as Sanders.
In his two seasons with the Steelers, he went 7-5 both years, including a 2-1 mark against the Browns. He said it’s advantageous that he spent two seasons in the AFC North and knows the opponents well.
He added that it will be nice to be on the same side as Myles Garrett instead of going against him.
