Eagles Poach Georgia Coach in Latest NFL News

The Georgia Bulldogs haven't made many changes to their coaching staff this offseason. But a significant change appears on the horizon.

247Sports' Matt Zenitz reported on March 13 that the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to hire Bulldogs assistant quarterbacks coach Montgomery VanGorder.

The Eagles are adding VanGorder to their staff as an offensive assistant.

VanGorder has spent the past six seasons as an assistant on the Bulldogs coaching staff. Zenitz called him a "leading figure" in the Georgia quarterback group.

During VanGorder's stint, the Bulldogs won back-to-back championships in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

According to the Georgia Bulldogs staff directory, VanGorder's official title in 2024 was offensive quality control.

VanGorder was a quarterback in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish program from 2014-17. VanGorder finished his college career at Youngstown State in 2018.

A Buford, Ga., native, he returned home to begin his college coaching career in 2019.

As a high school quarterback, VanGorder led his school to back-to-back 3A State championships in 2012 and 2013.

Coaching is also in his blood. VanGorder is the son of former Georgia defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder, who worked under ex-Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt from 2001-2004.

For 2025, Gunner Stockton is set to compete with Ryan Puglisi to replace departed signal-caller Carson Beck. But the biggest initial impact of VanGorder's departure may be on the recruiting trail.

The Bulldogs are expected to be hosting No. 1 2026 quarterback Jared Curtis for an unofficial visit this week. Curtis has Georgia and the Oregon Ducks ranked as his final two schools.
