Leeds United will likely be due a compensation fee when Angus Kinnear takes charge as the new Everton CEO on 1 June.
Everton announced the appointment of Kinnear as their new chief executive on Friday (7 March) in the wake of the news that Kevin Thelwell is leaving his role at the end of the season.
Kinnear will work closely with David Moyes at the Merseyside-based club, who are shifting from a single sporting director model to a system led by a sports leadership team.
Thelwell is set to leave Everton.
Leeds will have push hard for compensation
The executive will bring a wealth of experience to Everton, having held a senior leadership position at Leeds since 2017, but that will come at a price.
Dan Plumley has said that he would be amazed if the Elland Road outfit were not entitled to a significant compensation fee when he joins the Toffees.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES
The football finance expert is of the view that the Championship club will have pushed hard to get a sum favourable to them, considering Kinnear’s importance to them and their ambitions to play in the Premier League next season.
“You’d assume that there’s probably a clause in the contract“**, Plumley exclusively told Goodison News.
“I think again, as we say, it’s kind of become the norm in the present-day industry, that the sporting directors, the CEOs, they carry compensation fees now just as much as the managers do and the importance of player movement on the pitch.
“So, I would be surprised if there’s not a clause in there, and I would also be surprised if Leeds haven’t pushed hard on that side of the bargain as well, because ultimately, they probably didn’t want to lose him as well, and they might be a Premier League club next year as well, so there’s an added bit of dynamic to the negotiation there as well.
“It will ultimately come down to negotiation, but I’d be amazed if Leeds haven’t got a clause in there and wouldn’t be set for some sort of compensation fee when he moves to Everton.”
Angus Kinnear will be at Everton from 1 June.
Kinnear to help Everton move to Bramley-Moore Dock stadium
Kinnear played a key role in Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League in the 2019-2020 season.
However, his experience helping Arsenal and West Ham move into new stadiums will also be equally important for Everton as they prepare for life at the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.
Meanwhile, the Toffees are expected to confirm more senior appointments in due course.
