EFL have plenty to answer for as extraordinary finding could end up costing Leeds United promotion - opinion

Leeds United won’t want any outside reasons to be the downfall of their opportunity to be promoted back to the Premier League but if the EFL don’t sort something quick it could prove detrimental.

Daniel Farke will be praying this is the season the Whites finally return to the Premier League after coming just short in the play-off final last campaign.

Farke has broken Leeds’ defensive records, showing how the 49ers’ decision to keep him on for this season is proving to be an inspired choice.

However, despite their brilliant form in the Championship, Farke has been baffled by refereeing decisions as Joel Piroe was denied a goal that looked more onside than offside against Millwall on Wednesday night.

Well, an extraordinary statistic has emerged that doesn’t favour Leeds, and questions need to be asked.

Leeds United statistic from last two Elland Road fixtures is extraordinary

Luckily for the Whites, the offside decision didn’t affect Leeds beating Millwall 2-0, but on another day, this could’ve proved to be a decision talked about for a while.

This isn’t the only decision that has gone against Farke recently, as Leeds were denied a stonewall penalty vs Portsmouth.

But if someone told you this statistic that has emerged from Elland Road, you wouldn’t believe it.

From Leeds’ last two fixtures at home, there have been 43 fouls awarded, some in favour of Leeds, but most against, with the opposition having 23 of those.

Extraodinarily, out of the 43, not one yellow card has been awarded, which is unthinkable.

If there was ever any need for VAR to be introduced to the Championship, this could be a reason.

Whether VAR is the answer or not, the EFL must stamp down on refereeing errors, which is proving to be a weekly occurrence in Leeds games at the moment.

The penalty claim vs Portsmouth left pundits baffled and in such an important time of the season, Leeds can’t afford these costly errors from referees.

It’s something that needs to be sorted, as fans’ view on the standard of refereeing in this country won’t be getting any better.

Expect a loud cheer the next time a yellow card is awarded at Elland Road, unless it goes against the home side, which won’t be surprising.
