Chelsea monitoring Eredivisie defender

Chelsea will hope to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League when they face FC Copenhagen on Thursday night.

The Blues battled to a 2-1 win over their Danish opponents last week, and Enzo Maresca will expect to see his side cruise through to the last eight of the competition when they welcome Copenhagen back to Stamford Bridge.

The Italian has endured a mixed debut season in West London, however his side remain on course to qualify for the Champions League next term and are also heavy favourites to win the Conference League in May.

In the meantime, it has emerged that Chelsea have been scouting an Eredivisie defender.

As per TBR Football, the Blues are interested in Feyenoord centre-back David Hancko.

The Slovakia international has impressed for Feyenoord this season, making 38 appearances across all competitions including 23 in the Eredivisie.

Hancko is a target for both Chelsea and Spurs

It is claimed that both Chelsea and London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the defender, who is contracted to his current club until the summer of 2028.

The report also claims that Liverpool held an interest in the defender prior to the arrival of Arne Slot at Anfield, with the pair having worked together in Rotterdam.

While the Reds remain interested in the player, the report claims that Chelsea and Spurs both had scouts in attendance at Feyenoord’s 2-1 defeat against Italian side Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Hancko joined Feyenoord from Czech side Sparta Prague in 2022 and has since played more than 130 times for the Dutch giants.

The Slovakian’s versatility could appeal to potential suitors, as he is able to operate at left-back as well as in the centre of defence.

While Spurs and Chelsea are both interested in the player, the report suggests that Liverpool could be frontrunners to secure his signature due to Slot’s links with him.

Feyenoord are also said to be open to the prospect of selling the defender during the upcoming summer transfer window.
