Greece, Greek Cypriot administration, Israel hold talks on energy cooperation, connectivity

**ATHENS**

Greece, the Greek Cypriot Administration, and Israel on Thursday held talks in Athens on energy cooperation and connectivity.

The trilateral talks, hosted by Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, and including his Greek Cypriot and Israeli counterparts, took place as part of trilateral strategic cooperation between the countries.

At a joint news conference after their talks, Gerapetritis stressed that they promoted “strengthening cooperation and our joint actions in the fields of trade, the economy, protection of the marine environment, civil protection, and cybersecurity.”

On trilateral energy projects involving the countries, he said: “And, of course, we attach particular importance to our energy cooperation and connectivity, which is recognized and encouraged by international law.”

Gerapetritis added that the countries also agreed to extend the tripartite cooperation scheme by inviting the US to reactivate its participation.

On Gaza, he said Greece sees the ongoing ceasefire as encouraging.

“The ceasefire provides the necessary incentives for revitalization of the political process for a two-state solution in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, with recognition of Israel's right to peace and security,” Gerapetritis said.

Calling the situation in Syria problematic, he said Greece condemned the recent killings and violence in Syria's coastal area.

“The stability and prosperity of Syria is in the interest of the region. That is why we welcomed steps towards national reconciliation,” Gerapetritis said.

He also said that the transition process in Syria should be inclusive and “free from any external influence.”
