New target: Nottingham Forest now eyeing "seriously talented" maestro who wowed Guardiola

Nottingham Forest are now eyeing a "seriously talented" midfielder who has impressed Pep Guardiola in the Champions League this season, according to a report.

Forest eyeing Champions League level additions

Forest are in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League next season, particularly after their 1-0 victory against Manchester City in their last Premier League outing, which put them four points clear of Guardiola's side.

However, should the Tricky Trees manage to secure their place in Europe's elite competition, they may need to bring in some top-level reinforcements in the summer transfer window, and they have a number of options in mind.

AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham is the latest player to be linked with a move to the City Ground, with talks over a deal recently being opened, while they are also keeping an eye on Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi, who looks set to leave the Serie A side.

Nottingham Forest eyeing move to sign £8m star with 7 goals in last 7 games

Nottingham Forest are looking to bolster their attacking options with a signing from the EFL.

Frattesi's experience in the Champions League could make him a quality addition for Nottingham Forest, but they are also eyeing a move for another midfielder who has been impressing in Europe this season.

According to a report from Voetbal Primeur (via Sport Witness), Forest sent scouts to watch Club Brugge's Ardon Jashari in action in the first leg of the Belgian side's Champions League round of 16 clash against Aston Villa last week.

A number of Premier League clubs were in attendance to watch Jashari, who was lauded by Guardiola for his performance against Man City earlier this season, with the 54-year-old praising him for how he moves with the ball and covers space on the pitch.

Club Brugge's Ardon Jashari reacts

Former Burnley midfielder Steven Defour is also a big fan of the midfielder, saying: “He is the best player in our league and perhaps even one of the best of the last ten years,” he said.

“His combination of energy, aggression and calmness on the ball is unique. He reads the game excellently and is technically strong enough to compete at the highest level."

"Seriously talented" Jashari could be a top signing

Nuno may well need to bring in players with Champions League experience this summer, and the 22-year-old featured in the competition regularly for Brugge this season prior to their exit last night, making 11 appearances.

The Switzerland international flourishes defensively, ranking in the 91st percentile for blocks, and the 85th percentile for clearances per 90, when compared to his positional peers over the past year.

However, there are signs the Brugge star is a well-rounded midfielder, having picked up five goals and three assists for FC Luzern in the Swiss Super League last season.

Freelance scout Ben Mattinson predicted Jashari won't be at Brugge for long, and Forest should make sure they're right at the front of the queue for his signature this summer.
