The Kansas City Chiefs have made moves to strengthen their roster in the early part of free agency by adding players at positions of need. So far, Kansas City has added left tackle Jaylon Moore, running back Elijah Mitchell and cornerback Kristian Fulton. That said, the team also must make decisions on which backups to keep on the roster heading into the 2025 season.

On Wednesday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest shared insight into which Chiefs players are and aren't receiving tender sheets. According to Derrick, cornerback Nazeeh Johnson and linebacker Jack Cochrane are were given offers, while tight end Peyton Hendershot, cornerback Keith Taylor and kicker Spencer Shrader were not.

Therefore, Hendershot, Taylor and Shrader are free to sign anywhere else as of Wednesday.

Chiefs Turn Down Contract Tenders for Three Players

---------------------------------------------------

Of the three players Kansas City chose not to tender, Hendershot is the most surprising. The 25-year-old has prior NFL experience, thanks to his time with the Dallas Cowboys.

During his tenure in Dallas, Hendershot played in 25 games (3 starts) and recorded 15 receptions on 23 targets for 141 yards and two touchdowns. While that's not much production, Hendershot was the third tight end in Dallas, so doing anything with his playing time was impressive.

This past season, Hendershot was once again low on the depth chart in Kansas City. However, many thought the Chiefs would attempt to retain him, given Travis Kelce may only have one or two seasons left. Even though Noah Gray is expected to be the starter when Kelce retires, Kansas City will likely need more than one tight end to replace him.

On the other hand, letting Taylor and Shrader walk is more sensible. At 26 years old, Taylor was a depth cornerback who didn't perform that well in his playing time this season. As a result, the Chiefs may bring in an undrafted free-agent corner to fill Taylor's spot.

As for Shrader, there is no need for Kansas City to roster two kickers. The only reason Shrader spent time on the practice squad and active roster this past season was due to the [injury](https://kckingdom.com/chiefs-cut-ties-backup-kicker-begin-free-agency-01jp7wbnx1mt) Butker suffered.

Nonetheless, a chance remains that any of these players could return down the line if they don't have much of a market. But, as of now, Kansas City seems okay moving on from each player.
