Mohamed Salah may be having the season of his career, but his future at Liverpool remains uncertain and the Reds may have to replace him.

Given the fact that he's yet to sign a contract extension, there appears to be a genuine likelihood of the Egyptian departing the club upon the expiry of his current deal at the end of the season.

This would be a devastating blow to Liverpool. Salah is a generation player and he's still got years left at the very top of his game.

Right now, you would say he's probably one of the best players on the planet in current form. There are few players who could rival him to that claim.

Although one player who might make a case for himself is seemingly on Liverpool's radar and could even prove to be the perfect replacement for Salah.

Why Ousmane Dembele is on Liverpool's transfer radar

At Anfield, Dembele delivered a cruel blow to Liverpool when he pounced on an error by Alisson and Virgil van Dijk to restore parity in the tie.

In the end, it's that goal which eliminated Liverpool and sent Paris Saint Germain into the next round of the tournament.

Now the 27-year-old has emerged as a candidate for Liverpool. According to Fichajes, Dembele is on the club's radar with a €100m move considered.

This is a report coming from a source that isn't necessarily the most credible at times to say the least. However, Dembele at Liverpool would make a lot of sense.

Michael Edwards is a huge fan of him. Anfield Watch understands he wanted to bring Dembele to Liverpool back while he was playing for Rennes before his move to Borussia Dortmund.

The club have always had a strong appreciation for the winger. He's a player who can use both feet equally comfortably and his direct speed and ability in the final third would make him a really ideal profile under Slot.

Dembele is in the form of his life as well having made 35 goal contributions in 36 matches for PSG in all competitions, so €100m deal would be an incredible piece of business by the Reds.

At 27-years-old, he's still got plenty of years left at the very top of his game and could perform at this level for three or four more years at the very least.

Replacing Salah will not be easy, but Dembele makes sense. He's more explosive than the Egyptian and thrives in one vs one dribbles which would give Liverpool another dimension.

But at the same time he is also equally as productive, averaging a goal or assist every 68 minutes he spends on the pitch this season.

For whatever reason, Dembele's time at Barcelona never worked out as much as he would have liked. But he's been born anew in Paris and he's still got another level he can reach.

Liverpool will not want to be in the position to needing to replace Salah this summer, but if Richard Hughes is forced into that there won't be better players on the market than Dembele. He's the perfect choice.
