Manchester City welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to the Etihad Stadium as they go into another match on the back of a defeat. The Blues lost for the ninth time this season as Nottingham Forest became the latest side to take three points from the Blues and City will be desperate to get back to winning ways once again.
Brighton have won their last six matches and will go into the match knowing that victory will take them above the Blues in the table.
There isn’t much history between the two teams. Their first meeting was an FA Cup clash in 1924, then it was another 55 years before they met again.
The first meeting at Maine Road was in August 1979 and was the first of 14 league matches between the two in which the Blues have been unbeaten in all. City have won 12 of those matches, including the last 10 on the trot in Manchester.
City have scored 35 goals at home to Brighton and conceded just eight, keeping seven clean sheets in the process. City have never failed to score in this fixture to date and their biggest win is 4-0, which they have achieved twice.
Brighton have scored in just seven matches in Manchester and in six of those, they have only managed one goal. The only time they have scored more than once was in 1979 when City beat the Seagulls 3-2 at Maine Road.
Saturday will be their eighth meeting in the Premier League but 12th in the top flight overall. They have also met three times in the old second division.
The last time they faced each other in Manchester in this month was March 1981 when the teams drew 1-1 and the Faithful will not be wanting a repeat of that scoreline as they continue to chase a Champions League place.
