Michail Antonio faces an uncertain future in more ways than one, with the long-serving West Ham United ace recovering from a potentially career-ending injury and our of contract in the summer.
West Ham are heading for a monumental summer as they need to make several key decisions regarding the squad.
The current squad’s shortcomings have landed the club in trouble as they sit 16th in the Premier League table with 33 points.
The Irons splurged in the summer, spending £155million, but massive deficiencies still exist within the squad.
The ageing squad lacks dynamism and has been really sluggish on the field at times. With the summer window approaching, West Ham must make some important decisions.

Michail Antonio contract decision to be made
Antonio has been at the club since 2015, gaining an icon status. The forward has played 323 games for the Hammers, netting 83 goals and has been a very important player for the last few seasons.

West Ham’s out of contract players
Antonio’s life was uprooted when he was involved in car-crash which could have even claimed his life. As he steadily works his way back to full fitness, he also has to worry about his contract expiring.
However, the Hammers have made a decision for Antonio. According to Graeme Bailey via Hammers News, West Ham have decided to offer Antonio a new deal. This decision has been made privately as the Jamaican works to return to full fitness.

West Ham right to extend Antonio’s contract
The report further adds that Antonio will only be offered a basic one-year deal. The reason behind a simple one-year deal is that West Ham do not have money to spend and hence a basic package will be offered, enough to keep Antonio at the club as he works to return to the squad.
The reason behind offering Antonio a deal is that if they let the 34-year-old leave for free, they simply do not have enough finances to fund a big striker transfer. Their current striker department houses Danny Ings, Niclas Fullkrug, Evan Ferguson and Antonio.
Ings is also out of contract at the end of the season and Ferguson is expected to return to Brighton following the end of his loan spell at the end of the campaign.
Keeping Antonio for another season allows West Ham to strengthen other departments and keep the 34-year-old as a reliable squad option.
