Graham Potter finally breaks silence on Everton rumours as he makes ‘strange’ admission

Everton come up against West Ham United at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

David Moyes is coming up against his former side for the first time since leaving the London Stadium at the end of last season.

However, the game has a lot more on the line, with the two sides only separated in the Premier League table by goal difference.

Everton are looking to head into the international break by extending their stunning run of form to nine games unbeaten.

There has been some positive news coming out of training, with Armando Broja returning to full Everton training at Finch Farm.

As the Toffees come into the game on the back of such a good run, things could have been so much different had the Friedkins hired someone other than Moyes.

Graham Potter addresses recent links to Everton job

Prior to appointing the 61-year-old, Everton held an interest in Graham Potter to potentially replace Sean Dyche on Merseyside.

However, Potter did make the decision to take on the role at the London Stadium.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Potter has addressed the speculation from January over the possibility of becoming Everton manager.

“I think I got linked to quite a lot of jobs. If I believed all that was out there, it would be strange,” he responded.

“So, no, I’ve said man times that I spoke with lots of clubs and lots of people during my time off and, out of respect for them, I will keep everything to myself as I have that right as a private person.”

It was suggested in January that Potter was keen to work under the Friedkins at Everton, but that did not stop him joining West Ham.

Ahead of the game on the weekend, it would be interesting to know if Potter feels he made the right choice.

Potter impressed with David Moyes’ work at Everton

Moyes could not have asked for much of a better start at Everton since landing back at the club in January.

It has not quite been the same response for Potter, who was appointed at West Ham just days prior.

He’s done really well. I’ve got huge respect for him – he’s a great guy and a top, top coach,” Potter added.

“It’s going to be a difficult game – Goodison is always a hard place to go, and he’s got them playing really well.”

Jamie Carragher said Potter is not an Everton manager, and there won’t be many at Goodison who will feel they missed out on not hiring the 49-year-old.
