Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes that Ruben Amorim holds an interest in Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi ahead of the summer transfer window.
After a disastrous season for the Reds, Ineos and Amorim are under pressure to make wholesale changes to their current squad to improve it. All areas of the pitch could arguably be improved and central midfield is a position that United will be keen to invest in.
Casemiro has been consistently linked with a move away from Old Trafford considering his high wage while Christian Eriksen is expected to depart at the end of his contract. In his pre-match interview on TNT Sports, Amorim was asked about the inclusion of Zubimendi this evening after he missed last week's first leg through illness.
The Portuguese head coach responded: "He's a top player that can change a team, especially in that position, he's one position that can read and block transitions. He's also the first guy in the build-up, I know the player really well, everybody knows he's a top player that can change the team."
As the coverage returned to Scholes, Karen Carney and Jules Breach pitchside, the former United midfielder suggested that Amorim may have hinted at a player he wishes to sign in the summer. "From that interview, the manager quite likes Zubimendi," he explained.

"If we sell three or four players we might be able to buy him but tonight's a big night." It is no secret that United are feeling the pinch on their finances at present and Zubimendi would not come cheap.
The La Liga side are thought to be willing to do a deal for £51m with Arsenal particularly interested in his services, according to reports. Liverpool had looked certain to complete a move last summer only for it to fall through at the last moment.
