Manchester United set to scout 19-year-old defensive prodigy

Manchester United are set to scout Yusuf Akcicek in the coming period, with their interest set to intensify in the Turkish defender.

According to journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu on Sports Digitale, Manchester United are set to scout Yusuf Akcicek again in the coming period. The Red Devils are seemingly very interested in the 19-year-old defensive prodigy from Fenerbahce, with the Premier League giants expected to further their interest.

Manchester United are looking for value signings in the market ahead of the upcoming summer window. The club hierarchy are keen to be careful with spending too much on players that may flop later on, as they are keeping close tabs on their reported targets.

One of them is young defender Yusuf Akcicek from Fenerbahce, with reports stating Manchester United had scouted him. The new story on their interest points towards another scouting mission when Fenerbahce comes to Glasgow to take on Rangers.

Acicek has been the subject of interest from top clubs following breakthrough under Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce. The 19-year-old defensive prodigy has been impressive and one of the main parts of the squad at the moment.

Arsenal and Tottenham are also interested in him alongside Manchester United, although it’s the Red Devils who are looking like the side to go further in this chase. Journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu’s comments were translated by Sport Witness, which revealed Manchester United’s concrete interest in the 19-year-old defensive prodigy while claiming the price at which Fenerbahce might let the centre-back leave.

Sabuncuoglu said, “Manchester United officially wants Yusuf Akcicek. In fact, along with Manchester United, one of the five big teams in England has also stepped in for Yusuf Akcicek.”

“The sports director that Mr. Acun Alican said on Ersin Duzen’s program was offer £20m is also the sports director of one of the five big teams.”

“They will also come to Glasgow to watch. United will send scouts to Glasgow once again.

“Manchester United wants him very much. I expect an official offer of around £10-15m to come out in the summer. United will meet with Fenerbahce in June.”

Why are Manchester United interested in Yusuf Akcieck?

Manchester United have invested quite heavily in central defenders since last summer with the arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt and a young Leny Yoro. Meanwhile, they also snapped up Arsenal academy talent Ayden Heaven, with the left-footed centre-back making his debut against his former side last Sunday.

Hence, there are questions about their pursuit of the 19-year-old defensive prodigy from Fenerbahce, as Akcieck is another young left-footed centre-back. It might be the case of adding some of the best young talents from around for a reasonable price, which might see their value skyrocket in the future should they manage good performances for the club, which does make it seem like a business-led signing.
