The Indianapolis Colts were surprisingly active to kick off free agency this offseason.
The major point of focus for the team, other than bringing in competition at quarterback, was revamping its struggling secondary. The team did just that by bringing in former Vikings safety Cam Bynum, as well as former Chiefs and 49ers cornerback Charvarius “Mooney” Ward. Both players now join new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and figure to be immediate upgrades at an area that really troubled the Colts in 2024.
During the Thursday edition of The Ride With JMV, Mooney Ward joined the show and spoke about the process of coming to Indy.
_“I’m not going to say it kind of surprised me, but originally, I thought I was going to New Orleans because the deal was almost done, then the Colts I guess they realized how great of a fit I am, they came in and kind of beat out the Saints at the last minute. It happened pretty fast, like I said I thought I was going to end up in New Orleans; close to home, I grew up two hours from New Orleans, but it didn’t happen. I’m happy to be with the Colts though, so I’m ready to get going.”_
He also spoke about how he still feels that need to prove himself even at this point of his career.
_“I always wanted to prove to myself that I can be a starter in the NFL, I wanted to prove to myself that I can be a Pro Bowler, I wanted to prove myself that I can be an All-Pro. I accomplished those things. This year, I feel like I’ve got something else to prove, that I’m still one of the best corners in the game. I know last year was a tumultuous year for me, I went through a lot, it was kind of a down year because mentally I was kind of defeated. But this year, I’m back up on my A game, back in my bag, so I’m going to prove that I’m still one of the best corners in the game this season.”_
