The San Francisco 49ers have released long-snapper Taybor Pepper as their roster makeover continues. Taybor has been with the 49ers since 2020. This past season was the lowest grade he’s received during his tenure with the Niners.
But if you remember the days before Pepper, the 49ers had snapping issues. It’s not an aspect of the game that the Niners can afford to take for granted. There’s a new special teams coordinator, and he doesn’t have any ties to any of the players on the roster.
With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see if the 49ers make any other special teams moves this offseason. Will we see a new kicker, despite what John Lynch said? Punter Mitch Wishnowsky had a down season and is coming off an injury. Then, there’s the elephant in the room...Jake Moody.
We’ll see what Brant Boyer has in mind for the rest of the roster. The 49ers have added depth on special teams, but this is a move where they’ll need to replace Pepper. Could the Niners be looking to get more athletic at long-snapper? Time will tell.
Thank you Faithful! Wanted to end my career with the 49ers, but I’ve still got some years left in the tank.
Love all the amazing players I’ve gotten to share the field with during my time. I’ll deeply miss all of the amazing support staff that continue to keep the org moving. pic.twitter.com/8EPRuPoNfO
