Foreign Minister Mr. Iwaya is shaking hands wtih the Rt Hon David LAMMY, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom

On March 13th, commencing at 15:20 p.m. in local time (March 14th, 04:20 a.m. JST) in Charlevoix, Canada, for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Canada to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held a meeting with the Rt Hon David LAMMY, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The overview is as follows.

At the outset, Minister Iwaya stated that they had a very meaningful discussion in Tokyo, having welcomed Secretary Lammy last week, and that Japan would like to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperate further in the international arena in the future. Secretary Lammy replied that he was pleased to see Minister Iwaya again after last week, and stated that he would like to collaborate with Minister Iwaya to further strengthen the Japan-UK relations.

On the situation in Ukraine, Minister Iwaya referred to diplomatic efforts by other countries including the UK and the two Ministers concurred to continue working closely together on this matter between Japan and the UK.
