Chelsea player ratings vs Copenhagen as Cole Palmer changes the game and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scores 8/10

Chelsea booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Conference League with a victory against Copenhagen.

The Blues went into Thursday night’s second leg at home to Copenhagen with a 2-1 aggregate lead from last week.

Enzo Maresca’s side beat the Danish club 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in the second leg, which now means they’re into the last eight of the Conference League.

Chelsea have a superb European record of never being eliminated from a knockout tie after winning the first leg away from home.

Chelsea player ratings vs Copenhagen

Filip Jorgensen – 6/10

Filip Jorgensen started in net for Chelsea versus Copenhagen, which makes us think he’ll be on the bench for Sunday’s Premier League trip to rivals Arsenal. His handling was decent during a pretty quiet game.

Trevoh Chalobah – 6/10

It looks a lot more natural when Trevoh Chalobah plays as a central defender, but he did another uneventful shift at right-back on Thursday.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 6/10

We noticed Tosin Adarabioyo leading the team huddle on the pitch moments before kick-off, which is a reminder of his leadership within the young squad. The centre-back had a fairly quiet night’s work against Copenhagen.

Benoit Badiashile – 5/10

It was good to see Blues centre-half Benoit Badiashile play again as he steps up his recovery from an injury absence. If there was a weak link in the backline, he was the guilty party because some of his passing was a bit suspect. We’re sure he’ll improve as he builds up his fitness.

Josh Acheampong – 6/10

Recalled to Chelsea’s XI, Josh Acheampong played out of position as the left-back who inverted into midfield when the team had possession. During a poor first half from the team, he at least looked to get on the ball and show some intent. We didn’t like the decision to remove him after 45 minutes.

Moises Caicedo – 7/10

It was a typical Moises Caicedo performance for the 78 minutes he played before being replaced by Reece James. The aggressive defensive midfielder put in an industrious contribution with lots of running, tackling and energy.

Enzo Fernandez – 5/10

Even though Enzo Fernandez has been a key figure in the XI during recent matches, he had a fairly quiet first half before coming off at half time.

Tyrique George – 6/10

It was a really lively performance from Chelsea youngster Tyrique George, showing a lot of intent and directness off both wings. He was just lacking end product with the final delivery.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 8/10

It was a much-needed performance from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. He was the match-winner for Chelsea on the night as his outstanding individual goal in the second half was fired into the bottom corner. On top of that, he was extremely tidy in possession whenever he got the ball and linked up play superbly well. It’s the type of display he was regularly putting in for Leicester City before his summer transfer to West London.

Jadon Sancho – 5/10

Jadon Sancho, along with the rest of the Chelsea attack, did nothing in the opening 45 minutes. At the start of the second half, the opposition goalkeeper made a simple save from his powerful effort on target. He was then substituted off for Christopher Nkunku in the 65th minute.

Pedro Neto – 5/10

There has been a lot to admire about Pedro Neto in recent games for stepping up as the emergency centre-forward, but it wasn’t one of his busiest games at home to Copenhagen. He came off right at the end so 17-year-old prospect Genesis Antwi could make his senior debut.

Substitutes

Cole Palmer – 7/10

The introduction of Cole Palmer definitely helped shift the momentum in Chelsea’s favour because he was brilliant in getting so much of the ball in clever positions. The only negative note is that his wait for a goal continues despite some attempts on target.

Marc Cucurella – 7/10

Like Palmer, Marc Cucurella was also deployed as a half-time substitute after Chelsea’s miserable first half. It’s no surprise that he added something extra up and down the left flank.

Christopher Nkunku – 5/10

Reece James – N/A

Genesis Antwi – N/A
