DK Metcalf will be wearing No. 4 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a change from his No. 14 with the Seattle Seahawks. He had worn No. 14 from high school until now, but George Pickens will keep that number.
Metcalf said he did not want to encroach on Pickens by taking his number. As a result, Metcalf will wear a new number. The reasoning for No. 4? It is simple.
“Well, it looks cool,” Metcalf said.
Metcalf, who was drafted by the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL Draft in the second round while experiencing a surprising draft-day fall, gave lots of love to his teammates, staff, and the rest of the organization as he departed after six years in a goodbye statement on Wednesday.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Metcalf has shined with the Seahawks, and has connections to the Steelers. He played with Russell Wilson, whose moonball helped unlock Metcalf as a deep threat throughout his early years with the Seahawks.
Paired with George Pickens, the Steelers hope to have one of the more dynamic wide receiver rooms in the entire NFL. Pickens is in the last year of his contract.
