Graham Potter delivers his verdict on Evan Ferguson’s time at West Ham so far ahead of Everton…

Graham Potter says he is “really happy” so far with Ireland striker Evan Ferguson.

The 20-year-old joined West Ham on loan from Brighton late in the January transfer window and has made four substitute appearances so far in the Premier League.

Some Hammers fans have expressed disappointment with the Meathman’s contribution so far, with Ferguson limited to just 90 minutes across his four cameo appearances.

He has yet to find the net in games against Brentford, Arsenal, Leicester and Newcastle, but Potter has urged supporters to be patient with Ferguson.

Prior to his switch, he was sidelined for a month with an ankle injury.

An earlier ankle problem, one that required surgery, meant he was a late arrival into pre-season training under new boss Fabian Hurzeler.

And having slipped down the pecking order, he had made just four starts for Brighton during the first half of the season.

Potter is confident that there is more to come from the youngster that he introduced into the Brighton first-team during his time in charge at the South Coast side.

He said: “(Ferguson) is where we expected him to be when he came in.

“He came in as a young player who has had time out with injuries, to come and help the squad, and that’s what he’s done.

“He came on against Brentford and made a good impact, and he’s done well when he’s been in the games. He’s building himself up all the time, and we’re really happy with him.”
