Late Wednesday night, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac reported that the Steelers have made an offer to free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers and are simply waiting for an answer.
The details of the offer were not disclosed, so there's no way to know how legitimate it is.
On Thursday, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that Pittsburgh is still waiting on an answer from Rodgers regarding their offer. Pittsburgh has already brought back Mason Rudolph on a two-year deal to presumably back up whoever is starting.
Also on Thursday, the Steelers signed free agent cornerback Brandin Echols to a two-year deal. Echols played with Rodgers in New York for the past two seasons and was asked about a possible reunion in Pittsburgh with the four-time league MVP.
"When he first got there, I couldn't really feel him out," Echols said. "But after a while, we kind of gravitated toward each other. ... Having him around, it did make me a better football player."
When asked about Rodgers joining him in Pittsburgh, he was all for it.
"Hell yeah," Echols replied. "Tell his a** to come on."
Echols also knows it might have been a missed opportunity in New York with Rodgers under center.
"I just wish the outcome was a little better, but toward the end of the season he started to really wake up," Echols noted.
A reunion is close to a reality with an offer on the table for the Super Bowl XLV MVP. How long will he make the Steelers wait for an answer?
