The Denver Broncos have signed four new players so far this week as the National Football League’s free agency period opened, and the team made those deals official on Thursday.
The Broncos now boast linebacker Dre Greenlaw, safety Talanoa Hufanga, wide receiver Trent Sherfield and tight end Evan Engram. It’s reported that Denver has signed up to pay the four $108 million with the defenders getting three-year contracts and the pass-catchers set to be in Colorado for two.
Both Greenlaw and Hufanga moved from San Francisco to Colorado. The linebacker has appeared in 64 regular-season games (56 starts) and started 12 postseason contests for the 49ers. He has recorded 455 tackles, 18 of which were for a loss and 3.5 sacks with three interceptions and 14 passes defended across 64 career games, all in the Bay. Greenlaw’s run-stopping ability might be his best trait, and it pushed the 49ers into being one of the stronger teams of the last several years. Right behind him was Hufanga, who was a first-team All-Pro in 2022. He’s recorded seven picks in his career and has made 214 tackles in 49 NFL games.
Engram figures to be a ‘Joker’ of a tight end, twice a Pro Bowler, and having played in 108 NFL games since going in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. The 6-foot-3 target hauled in the most catches (114) out of any tight end in the league in 2023; four were for touchdowns as he gained 963 yards. Engram was heavily hampered in 2025, limited to nine games because of a hamstring injury and, later, a season-ending torn labrum. Still, he nearly out-produced all the Broncos who played that position.
Then there’s Sherfield, 29, who has never started more than four games in a campaign or caught more than the 30 passes in a season. Last year for the Minnesota Vikings, he caught eight passes for 83 yards and a touchdown, making one start. But he played 221 special-teams snaps — nearly half of the plays in that phase. In his career, he’s played at least 150 special-teams snaps in six consecutive seasons.
