Trent Alexander-Arnold was a casualty in Liverpool’s Champions League exit on Tuesday evening.

The 26-year-old defender appeared to twist his ankle while making a tackle in the 73rd minute of the match, delivering a significant blow to Arne Slot’s side ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.

Despite a stretcher being prepared, Alexander-Arnold eventually managed to get back on his feet independently but was subsequently replaced by Jarell Quansah.

With the Carabao Cup final rapidly approaching, his potential absence has been a talking point in the build-up.

Liverpool is already without Conor Bradley, the natural backup at right-back, who has been sidelined for several weeks with his own injury concern.

Joe Gomez, another player who has deputized in the position, has been recovering from hamstring surgery performed last month.

But Arne Slot has provided somewhat of a boost to the chances of Trent Alexander-Arnold featuring.

Speaking to Liverpool FC’s YouTube channel to preview the Wembley showpiece, the Dutchman did not officially rule him out of contention when speaking on injuries:

“In this part of the season, every team misses players and we will miss a few as well.”

“Eddie [Howe] would have loved to play Anthony Gordon, but let’s wait and see how Trent is on Sunday, “Slot said.

“If he’s not available, I would have played Conor [Bradley] whose certainly not available.”

“But I still have Jarell Quansah, who played a great game against PSG when he came in.”

Liverpool may still enter Sunday’s final with mixed emotions as the mid-week defeat was a bruising blow.

But the Reds will always be back, and as Liverpool aims to secure their 70th major trophy and 11th League Cup title, Slot will have to rely on his full squad to deliver victory.
