Chelsea beat FC Copenhagen, 1-0 in the second leg of our UEFA Conference League Round of 16 matchup, booking our place in the quarterfinals of the competition with a 3-1 win on aggregate.
Since the bracket for these final rounds had been drawn already, we knew that we would be facing either Legia Warsaw or Molde FK in said quarterfinals. But when the final whistle blew at Stamford Bridge, their game was about to head into extra time.
In that extra time, Legia would find the winning goal, courtesy of former Barcelona youngster Marc Gual (not to be confused with our own former Barcelona youngster, Marc Guiu), thus completing a remarkable comeback. Molde were up 3-0 at one point in this tie, after the first-half of the first leg in fact, but Legia would score twice in the second half of that game and then win 2-0 tonight to advance. Impressive.
Legia’s win did come at a price however, with two of their three top center backs, Jan Ziółkowski and Artur Jędrzejczyk now suspended after picking up yellow cards in the dying moments of the game (the latter getting sent off, even).
The first leg of the quarterfinals will be away in Warsaw, on April 10, thanks to [UEFA’s same-city scheduling rules](https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/uefa-conference-league-fixture-update). We were supposed to be at the Bridge first, then away a week later (April 17), but [Tottenham Hotspur](https://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnation.com)’s Europa League matchup takes precedence. Ironically, that doesn’t quite benefit them: it’s better to have the second leg at home just in case of extra-time. (Same scenario would apply for the semifinal, should both Chelsea and Spurs progress.)
