A few weeks ago, wide receiver Cooper Kupp revealed that the Los Angeles Rams were trying to trade him, much to his dismay. But after attempting to reach a trade agreement with a bidding team, the Rams ultimately decided to release him on Wednesday.
Kupp is now one of the most attractive free agents currently available in the NFL, and even though his production has dropped off over the last three years, he can still help a number of teams take a step up.
There are reportedly at least five teams interested in him, per Jordan Schultz. Dianna Russini of The Athletic went on "Gojo and Golic" and said that one of the teams vying for Kupp's services is the Minnesota Vikings.
"There are a lot of teams interested in [Cooper Kupp]. The price range, it's a good number. He's looking to get paid around $14-$15 million…I think Seattle's got their eye on him. I think the Jags are watching this as well, I think the Minnesota Vikings [are interested]."
At first glance, it may seem as if the Vikings do not need another wide receiver weapon. They already have Justin Jefferson, who is arguably the best in the NFL at that position, as well as an excellent WR2 in Jordan Addison and a stud tight end in T.J. Hockenson.
But they're coming off a season in which they went 14-3 and narrowly lost the NFC North title to the Detroit Lions due to them losing in Week 18 to Detroit.
Another weapon in the wide receiving corps' could help them get over the top, especially if Detroit continues to have trouble staying healthy.
Kupp isn't the player he was when he led the league in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947) and receiving touchdowns (16) while leading the Rams to the Super Bowl championship during the 2021 season.
Despite having injury woes since, he still managed to catch 67 passes for 710 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games last season.
He could help Minnesota quarterback J.J. McCarthy - who missed all of 2024 with a torn meniscus - experience some early success in 2025. Or, he could perhaps attract a veteran quarterback such as Aaron Rodgers.
