SAF completes spring live-firing exercise with German counterparts

SINGAPORE - Around 100 personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) conducted a live-firing exercise with their German counterparts from March 8-12 in the Oberlausitz Military Training Area, said the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) on March 14.

This was the first of two exercises conducted over two training windows. Both spring and autumn exercises will involve Leopard 2SG main battle tanks, Hunter armoured fighting vehicles to sharpen the gunnery and manoeuvring skills of the armed forces personnel.

The live-firing and armour training exercise is conducted annually, with 2025 marking the 16th edition of the exercise first conducted in 2009.

The training space in the Oberlausitz Military Training Area in eastern Germany, which is around a quarter the size of Singapore, allows the SAF to execute complex missions on a larger scale and also conduct training more efficiently on up to four firing ranges, said Mindef.

Training in Germany also reinforces defence ties between the SAF and the German army, known as the Bundeswehr.

Singapore and Germany interact regularly through high-level visits, dialogues and technological collaboration, said Mindef.
