Bills’ Edge Rusher Signs With AFC Rival

The Buffalo Bills knew their roster wasn't good enough last season to hoist a Lombardi Trophy - let alone one that was dominant enough to get past the Kansas City Chiefs.

At the very start of the offseason, though, it's clear the Bills have focused on one key area to upgrade.

The defensive line.

Multiple signings along the group include Pro Bowler Joey Bosa and versatile defensive lineman Michael Hoecht. Now, though, the team has begun moving off of several players from last year's group. And in that regard, letting some people walk.

Former Bills edge rusher Casey Toohill signed a one-year free agent deal with the Houston Texans according to Aaron Wilson.

Toohill accounted for 1.0 sack in just 249 snaps played in 2024, including one pass deflection and one fumble recovery. The Bills cut him from the 53-man roster in mid-December and subsequently added him to the practice squad. He was not active for any of Buffalo's three postseason games.

Buffalo had released Von Miller at the start of free agency as a way to clear the air in their own mind of resetting the entire position group. The Bills have been one of the more aggressive teams in the league along the position group to this point as well.

With Rousseau, Bosa and Hoecht, the Bills' edge rusher room has expanded to five members. Former second-round pick AJ Epenesa is under contract as is 2024 fifth-round pick Javon Solomon.

There simply wasn't enough room for Toohill to make the roster.
