Liverpool could land ideal Darwin Nunez replacement as Viktor Gyokeres'options'emerge

Liverpool are reportedly a potential destination for in-demand striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Liverpool are reportedly a potential destination for in-demand striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Liverpool can pick up the first piece of domestic silverware on Sunday as they take on Newcastle United at Wembley. The Reds are looking to successfully defend their Carabao Cup crown after overcoming Chelsea in the showpiece last year.

The competition capped a successful tenure at Anfield for Jurgen Klopp but for Arne Slot, it could mark the beginning of a successful spell on Merseyside. Already, the Dutchman has guided the club 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League and by the time they're next in competitive action in the league, they could have one trophy secured.

They will be looking for a response following Tuesday's Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain. The runaway Ligue 1 leaders overcame their one-goal first-leg deficit to level proceedings during the tie before Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missed decisive spot-kicks in the penalty shootout defeat.

Liverpool could land Viktor Gyokeres in ideal Darwin Nunez replacement

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Liverpool are one of the clubs that Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres could join. The Sweden forward has taken the league by storm following his move from Coventry City.

The talisman has attracted interest from around Europe and has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League following the pursuit of attacking quality from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

With the arrival of Ruben Amorim at the Red Devils, speculation has intensified over a move to the Theatre of Dreams. However, the report suggests that Arsenal, Manchester City or Anfield are three potential destinations.

It has been said a Premier League move is favoured, rather than Bayern Munich, PSG or Barcelona. Liverpool are facing an increasing need to sign attacking quality after becoming dependent on Mohamed Salah, for much of the campaign.

There are question marks over the future of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota with the trio enduring difficult spells in their Liverpool careers.

Ibrahima Konate sparks Liverpool fear

While the contract situations surrounding Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Salah have dominated the landscape this season, Ibrahima Konate's future is also emerging as a possible concern.

The Frenchman has revealed that talk of an exit or extension are on hold until the end of the season while Liverpool battle on two fronts. However, reports in his native country, namely SportsZone suggest that PSG are leading the race to sign him.

It has been claimed that talks are already underway behind the scenes with the Reds anxious over losing both of their starting central defenders in Van Dijk and Konate in the summer.

Furthermore, the Liverpool defender reportedly prefers a move back to France. Konate does have over 12 months remaining on his current deal with this summer posing one of the final opportunities to receive a fee, should they wish, for the defender.

Failure to do so would see them land in a similar predicament that they're facing this summer with Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold set to become free agents.
