Man Utd reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League with a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad.
Manchester United qualified for the quarter-finals of the Europa League after a 4-1 comeback win over Real Sociedad to win the last 16 tie 5-2 on aggregate. Mikel Oyarzabal gave the visitors an early lead from the penalty spot but it only lasted a matter of minutes before Bruno Fernandes levelled the tie through a penalty of his own.
Fernandes scored again from the spot in the second-half to give his the lead on the night, before he completed his hat-trick with a ferocious finish on the counter-attack. Diogo Dalot sealed the win in style with a fourth in the dying moments of the match to book their place in the quarter-finals.
United will now face French side Lyon in the last eight of the competition as they look to win the Europa League, which would also give them a place in the Champions League next season. However, it will add another two matches to their schedule.
Premier League fixture set to be changed after Europa League win
Manchester United will travel to face Lyon on Thursday 10 April in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie, before hosting them at Old Trafford a week later on Thursday 17 April. The two matches will be sandwiched between a trip to face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday 13 April, but another league encounter is now set to be changed.
United were due to host Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday 19 April but that match is now expected to be moved to 2pm on Sunday 20 April in order to deal with the two fixtures that have been added to their calendar.
Lyon booked their place in the quarter-final of the Europa League with an emphatic 7-1 victory on aggregate over FCSB. It means United will reunite with former midfielder Nemanja Matic who currently plays for the Ligue 1 club.
