A LIVERPOOL FC coach has launched a long-term youth athletic development programme, which includes working with children at her former Northwich school, writes Lewis Grundell.
Charlie Hignett, a coach at Liverpool FC Women, is helping Comberbach Primary School pupils to 'train right'.
From player to coach and now helping the next generation, she has set up a project named ‘Achieve performance, built on the long-term athletic development (LTAD) approach: where every child becomes their best athlete'.
Physical performance coach Hignett said: “Being in an elite environment, with knowledge of a long-term athletic development approach, I want to make sure kids are training correctly to their ability.”

Hignett has been a coach for more than seven years and has worked at Everton and Manchester City Academy, as well as Liverpool FC.
Now, she has returned to her former school, Comberbach Primary, to help the young pupils develop.
Taster sessions include a range of physical components: agility, balance, coordination, speed, strength and power in an 'engaging and supportive environment'.
“It’s great, there were still teachers at the school from when I was there, and it’s good to show and tell the kids that I was in their position,” said Hignett.
The sessions will boost the children's fitness, which she added: “It's massively important.”
The sessions will be for all children, and she says each child is being trained to their exact ability.
“Group sessions are open to all abilities, we have a variety of games for all the kids, so it’s not as demanding,” she added.
