On March 12th , H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin and Hon. Dr. Aisake Eke, Prime Minister of Tonga, attended the handover ceremony of National Sports Complex and signed the handover certificate.

Ambassador Liu said,the Complex stood as a flagship achievement of Belt and Road Cooperation to promote social development and enhance people's livelihoods through sports. It would effectively improve Tonga’s competitive sports development and public athletic activities, become a model of implementing the China-Tonga Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and South-South cooperation, and demonstrate resolute commitment to advancing shared sustainable development goals of the two nations.
Hon. Dr. Aisake Eke appreciated China’s longstanding support, highlighted that the National Sports Complex not only provided the public with high-quality sports facilities but also inspired Tongan athletes to win more gold medals at the 2031 Pacific Games. Tonga would attach importance to the following maintenance work, host more large-scale events, and take full advantage of the Complex.
