Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has sent a message of support to Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford after Aston Villa reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Rashford moved to Villa in the January transfer window after a tumultuous end to 2024. In December, Ruben Amorim chose to drop the forward for the clash with Manchester City and from then onwards was not picked as the United head coach declared that his training attitude was not to scratch.
Shortly after being dropped against City, Rashford publicly declared that he was open to a future away from his boyhood club. MEN Sport understands that Barcelona was the Englishman's first-choice destination, but the La Liga giants held reservations about signing him in January.
Barca would instead be more receptive to a deal in the summer transfer window. This left Rashford in a pickle as the opportunity to play matches at Old Trafford had disintegrated.
Fortunately, Unai Emery personally requested his board to make a move for Rashford on loan, and he would switch from United to Villa until the end of the season at the end of the window. Since then, Rashford has shown glimpses of the player of old, registering four assists in nine appearances for the West Midlands club.
However, he could still be harbouring ambitions of playing for Barcelona, and while Villa hold a £40m buy clause for this summer, Rashford would have to agree to that before a deal was made. Should Barca complete the move for the United man, one of his new teammates would certainly be happy to see him.
Yamal took to social media after Rashford celebrated Villa's progression to the Champions League quarter-finals by commenting on his post with three basketball fire emojis and the top symbol. Undoubtedly this is a sign of praise from the 17-year-old who is one of the Catalan club's shining lights at present.
