Arsenal vs Chelsea Prediction

We look ahead to Sunday’s Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium with our Arsenal vs Chelsea prediction and preview. Can the Gunners get back to winning ways before the international break?

Arsenal vs Chelsea Stats: The Key Insights

Arsenal are expected to record their first league win in over a month, coming out on top in 52.2% of the Opta supercomputer’s pre-match simulations.

The Gunners are unbeaten in their last six Premier League games against Chelsea.

Chelsea have lost each of their last three Premier League away games – as many as their previous 19.

Arsenal’s title hopes look all but over, but with Premier League leaders Liverpool not playing in the Premier League this weekend, the Gunners could cut the deficit at the top to 12 points with a win over Chelsea.

Their chances of winning the title are down to just 0.6% after failing to win any of their last three Premier League matches, which has also allowed the teams below them to catch up.

Mikel Arteta’s men did get a boost in midweek, cruising into the Champions League quarter-finals after a 9-3 aggregate win over PSV to set up an enticing quarter-final against holders Real Madrid. Their superb 7-1 first-leg victory did the heavy lifting, with a much-changed Arsenal twice giving up the lead in a 2-2 draw with the Eredivisie side at home in the second leg on Wednesday.

Arteta will now be aiming to get their form back on track in the league at the Emirates. Their shock 1-0 defeat to West Ham in their last Premier League home game was Arsenal’s first in the league this term – they have not lost back-to-back such games since April 2022.

In fact, they have never lost consecutive London derby matches at the Emirates before in the competition. The last time they did so at home was in 2005-06 at Highbury, losing to Chelsea and West Ham.

On Sunday, they will have to overcome a Chelsea side who look to be heading in the right direction again after securing back-to-back wins in the Premier League at home to Southampton (4-0) and Leicester City (1-0).

It is as many wins as Chelsea had managed in their previous 10 games (D3 L5), but they haven’t won three in a row without conceding since March 2022.

However, the Blues’ last four victories have all come on home soil, failing to win away from home since their 4-3 success at Tottenham in early December. They have lost each of their last three on the road – as many as in the previous 19 beforehand.

While Chelsea are winning again, one problem yet to be solved is Cole Palmer’s recent goal drought. After missing a penalty for the first time in the Premier League against Leicester last weekend, his run without a goal extended to seven games in the Premier League (683 minutes), having 29 shots since last finding the net against Bournemouth in January.

In all competitions, Palmer is without a goal in 10 matches, with that streak extending despite getting 45 minutes in their 1-0 win over Copenhagen in the Conference League on Thursday as the Blues reached the quarter-finals.

Arsenal vs Chelsea Head-to-Head

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last six Premier League games against Chelsea (W4 D2), their longest run without a league defeat against them since a run of 19 between 1995 and 2005.

In fact, the Gunners have won six of their last nine Premier League games against Chelsea (D2 L1) – their previous six wins against the Blues had been spread across a 32-game period between 2004 and 2020 (D10 L16).

Chelsea have lost their last two away league games against Arsenal, including a 5-0 defeat in this exact fixture last season. They last lost three such games in a row between 2001 and 2003.

These two played out a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in the reverse fixture in November, with Pedro Neto equalising after Gabriel Martinelli had put Arsenal in front.
