England manager Thomas Tuchel has praised the “huge impact” Marcus Rashford has had at Aston Villa since joining on loan from Manchester United.

The winger has been selected in Tuchel’s first England squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers as a result, returning to the Three Lions set-up for the first time in a year.

He has made nine appearances under Unai Emery and recorded four assists, all for fellow loanee Marco Asensio.

Former Chelsea boss Tuchel highlighted Rashford’s defensive contribution and selfless play as two key reasons for his call-up.

“Marcus is on a good way, we were convinced that it was the right time to push him with his nomination," Tuchel said.

“He had a huge impact lately in the matches at Aston Villa. I was delighted to see his effort against the ball, his effort to be the best teammate possible.

“He has consistent energy in defence at Aston Villa. Then, there is no doubt about his talent and quality.

“To see him being so decisive and so involved, physically involved, gave me the impression that it is the right moment to call him up and give him the extra push so he stays at the level.”

England face Albania at Wembley on Friday, March 21, before then hosting Latvia at the national stadium on Monday, March 24.
