Man Utd allowed Marcus Rashford to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window.
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been recalled to the England national side by new manager Thomas Tuchel after a 12-month absence. Rashford, who is on loan at Aston Villa, has not featured for his country since a friendly defeat to Brazil in March 2024 and was not part of last summer's European Championship squad.
Rashford was frozen out at United by Ruben Amorim after he admitted he was ready for 'a new challenge' in his career, though the head coach reiterated his exclusion was due to 'performance' issues rather than any disciplinary problems. United hoped to sell the academy graduate permanently in the winter window but settled for a loan exit, with the aim to sell him in the summer instead.
The 27-year-old has been a rejuvenated figure at Villa Park and registered three assists in nine matches. He has yet to score for his loan club and has only started once in the Premier League. He will have to work hard to keep his place in the England squad but has been given the chance to win a place back ahead of their World Cup qualification campaign.
Thomas Tuchel explains Marcus Rashford decision
He is already a familiar face, back in the team. It is a different situation (to Jordan Henderson). I feel Marcus had a huge impact at Aston Villa, since he changed to Aston Villa. he made a huge impact from the bench. Two matches from the start in Champions League. The impact was impressive.
His defensive impact, his hardwork in counter-pressing was impressive. I had the strong feeling we should nominate him to push him to stay on that level. To not fall back in old routines.
