This morning news broke that Manchester United have missed out on their key summer transfer target Geovany Quenda.

United have had a long-term interest in Quenda, having previously played under Ruben Amorim before the Portuguese manager took over at Old Trafford.

As such The Red Devils were looking at reuniting the pair, bringing Quenda from Sporting Lisbon in the summer to provide more strength on the wight-wing.

However, it’s now emerged that the 17-year-old has been poached by Chelsea as terms were agreed in secret.

Geovany Quenda and his move to Chelsea

RisngStarXI has reported that Quenda has agreed a seven-year contract with the London-based side.

Initially Quenda will remain in Lisbon on loan for next season and then travel to London to join his parent club for the 2026/27 season.

It’s understood that the deal between the clubs has cost Chelsea £35 million with the summer being the first opportunity to confirm the deal without broaching Brexit rules.

Thanks to the rules, no team in the UK is allowed to sign any player under the age of 18 from outside of the UK, with Quenda turning 18 next month.

This is the same issue which has prevented United moving on Quenda previously as well as young midfield target Sverre Halselth Nypan who The Red Devils were linked to through out the summer and winter transfer windows.

Now, United will need to be looking at alternate options to Quenda, with his reunion with Amorim looking set to be as opponents rather than as fellow Red Devils.
