We look ahead to Sunday’s Premier League game at the King Power Stadium with our Leicester vs Man Utd prediction and preview. Can Ruud van Nistelrooy get the better of his former side to restore some hope?
Leicester vs Man Utd Stats: The Key Insights
The Opta supercomputer is backing Manchester United to come away with three points on Sunday, winning 49.0% of the pre-match simulations.
Leicester have lost each of their last six Premier League home games by an aggregate score of 15-0.
United have already beaten Leicester three times in all competitions this season, with Ruud van Nistelrooy in charge of the Red Devils for two of them.
Leicester City are running out of time to secure Premier League safety, and they are looking to quickly turn their torrid form on its head when they welcome Manchester United to the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes sit 19th in the table, six points below Wolves in 17th, and that gap will be bigger by kick-off on Sunday if Vitor Pereira’s side get anything from their game at Southampton on Saturday.
Leicester have lost each of their last five matches in the Premier League without scoring a single goal, while on home soil, they have suffered six consecutive defeats by an aggregate score of 15-0.
In that time, they have managed 63 shots (22 on target) with no luck; no team in English top-flight history have ever lost seven such games in a row without hitting the back of the net.
Leicester PL shots in last six home games
Leicester could reach an unwanted landmark at the other end too. They have conceded 998 goals in their 678 Premier League games and will become the 12th side to see 1,000 go past them in the competition should they concede at least two goals.
Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in the dugout for the fourth time in this fixture this season, having been in interim charge of United for both their EFL Cup meeting with Leicester in October and the league clash in November, while he was in charge of Leicester for the recent FA Cup fixture between the two. The Dutchman will be desperate for his new team to turn their fortunes around against a Man Utd side with problems of their own as they sit 14th in the Premier League.
The visitors come into this game on a high, though, having earned a convincing 4-1 win over 10-man Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday, progressing to the quarter-finals 5-2 on aggregate thanks to a Bruno Fernandes hat-trick at Old Trafford.
United missed the chance to record back-to-back Premier League wins last weekend for the first time this season, but their 1-1 draw with Arsenal ensured they have not lost their last three in the league.
One thing United did achieve against Arsenal was a first-half goal, via a Fernandes free-kick just before half-time, something they have found hard to come by under Ruben Amorim.
In fact, it was the first time since early December that the Red Devils had led at the break, ending the longest run in the division of not holding a half-time lead (15 matches), despite them only registering 0.11 xG in the opening 45 minutes against the Gunners.
We may not see much goalmouth action in this one. United are averaging just 13 shots per game this season, their second-lowest on record in a single campaign (11.3 in 2015-16), while Leicester have had fewer shots (251) and shots on target (85) than any other side in the Premier League this term.
Leicester vs Man Utd Head-to-Head
Man Utd have lost just one of their last eight Premier League away games against Leicester (W4 D3), which was a 4-2 defeat in October 2021.
They have already beaten Leicester three times in all competitions this season – they’ve won against three sides four times in the same campaign before, while the only team Leicester have lost to four times in a season is West Brom.
The hosts won 5-2 in the EFL Cup, 3-0 in the Premier League and 2-1 in the FA Cup, though that saw former Fox Harry Maguire head in a stoppage-time winner despite being offside, with a lack of VAR in that game costing Leicester dearly.
Having been unbeaten in four Premier League games against United over the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons (W2 D2), Leicester have lost their last three against the Red Devils in the competition without scoring.
