The five Newcastle United players who will miss the Carabao Cup final vs Liverpool due to injury

Newcastle United have multiple players injured for the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

Eddie Howe will not have a full-strength squad for Sunday’s game at Wembley, as Newcastle United aim to end their trophy drought.

The Magpies go into the game as underdogs, with most pundits predicting a Liverpool win.

But Newcastle United have hope, despite being without some key players.

One of those is Anthony Gordon, who is suspended. That is incredibly frustrating, as he would be starting against the Reds had it not been for his sending off in the FA Cup defeat to Brighton.

Newcastle United’s confirmed injuries ahead of the Carabao Cup final

Lewis Hall

The 20-year-old defender has missed Newcastle’s previous two games with a foot injury, and will not feature at Wembley. In fact, Lewis Hall will not feature for the rest of the season.

Hall has undergone surgery, and will hopefully be fit and ready in time for pre-season.

Sven Botman

Fans had been pondering if Sven Botman would start the Carabao Cup final, having played so well in the semi-finals against Arsenal.

But Botman is out for eight weeks, with the defender needing a knee operation after an issue he picked up in that second leg win over the Gunners.

Eddie Howe on Sven Botman:

"Sven, we have been trying to get him back to full fitness, he was very close to the Brighton game but the day before he felt something again in his knee. This week he has had the same discomfort so it looks like he will have to have an operation.

Jamaal Lascelles

It is almost a full year since Jamaal Lascelles last played for Newcastle United.

The club captain remains out of action, but Howe has stated that Lascelles will be back soon as he enters the final stage of his recovery.

Trevan Sanusi

The 17-year-old made his senior Toon debut earlier this season, but is now on the injury list.

Sanusi confirmed the injury on social media, with the talented teenager suffering from an ankle problem.

Jamal Lewis

Jamal Lewis is Newcastle’s forgotten man. Lewis returned to the club in January, with an ankle injury cutting short his loan spell at Sao Paulo.

Interestingly, Lewis was named in Newcastle’s Premier League squad for the second half of the season, but is not expected to feature at all – even when he does return to fitness.

The Liverpool players set to miss the Carabao Cup final

Liverpool also have injury issues ahead of the Carabao Cup final.

The biggest comes at right-back, with Trent Alexander-Arnold due to miss the final.

Elsewhere, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez are also injured – two players who could have replaced Alexander-Arnold in their starting XI.

Liverpool also have Tyler Morton unavailable, with the 22-year-old out with a shoulder issue. He made three appearances during Liverpool’s journey to the final.
