Detroit Pistons Respond to Shaquille O’Neal’s Disrespect by Taking a Shot

It has been a great season thus far for the Detroit Pistons as they currently hold a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Of course, it has been a tough last few seasons for the Pistons as they finished with the NBA's worst record over the past two seasons, but that has changed this year.

Detroit currently sits sixth in the East standings with a 37-30 record and they are also just one game back of the Milwaukee Bucks for the fourth seed.

While the Pistons have turned things around this season, NBA legend and current NBA on TNT analyst Shaquille O'Neal recently disrespected them by saying that they are boring to watch and not knowing that J.B. Bickerstaff was their head coach.

With O'Neal's disrespectful comments going viral on social media, the Pistons decided to take a shot at the legend by calling him out on social media.

"Nothing new here," Detroit posted on X with a picture of the 2004 Pistons holding the championship trophy with a caption reading "overlooked us in 2004, overlooking us in 2025."

This was a clear shot at O'Neal and the Los Angeles Lakers, who the Pistons defeated in the 2004 NBA Finals.

Of course, the Lakers entered the 2004 Finals as the heavy favorites and they severely overlooked the Pistons as Detroit defeated them in five games to win their first championship since 1990.

With O'Neal now disrespecting the Pistons once again this season, Detroit thought it was a perfect time to put him in his place by calling him out and also reminding him of the 2004 Finals loss.

This was a major statement by the Pistons and one that O'Neal rightfully deserved as Detroit has had a great season thus far and are one of the best young teams in the NBA.

Detroit has positioned themselves for a playoff run this season, and they are going to be a team to watch in the future thanks to their young core of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren.
