Manchester United manager wants to sign new contract

Manchester United’s women’s team has shown great promise, with significant achievements such as winning the Women’s FA Cup last season and currently sitting second in the WSL table.

Despite these successes, there’s been a lot of speculation surrounding Marc Skinner’s future, with key decisions looming for both him and the club.

The manager’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and United have until the end of March to trigger a one-year extension, as per BBC.

While a decision is yet to be made, Skinner is optimistic about his future with the club.

He expressed his desire to stay, stating, “I’d love to stay.

“I feel there is unfinished business.”

Skinner emphasized the progress made in building a young team that he believes has the potential to become a legendary United side.

“We’ve designed and built this young team and I feel like it has the imprint, the DNA, of a really famous United team in the making,” he said.

Looking ahead, Skinner’s focus remains on continuing to drive the club forward, saying that his energy has shifted in a more positive direction since last year.

“It’s all about driving this club forwards.

“I want to stay and make sure we reach the successes I think this club can do.

“I love being at this club and I think it’s a magnificent club, the best in the world.”

Regarding injuries, Jayde Riviere, Elisabeth Terland, and Lisa Naalsund are all in contention to feature after recovering, but Simi Awujo remains sidelined with an ankle issue.

Meanwhile, Geyse’s availability is still uncertain, with United in talks with NWSL side Gotham FC regarding a potential loan move.

Ahead of United’s WSL meeting with Liverpool, Skinner acknowledged the challenge of playing at Anfield, stating, “It’s going to be difficult, it’s something we’ve got to battle with.

“We’ve got to battle the spirit of the game.

“We’ve got to be on top form.

“It’s a great challenge for us.”

On handling external pressure, Skinner said, “It can be tough sometimes to show the qualities we want to show when the noise is so big.

“But as a human, you want to be challenged.

“It’s something we just have to overcome and our players are doing an excellent job at that.

“I didn’t come to Man United to not accept the biggest of challenges.”

He concluded by reflecting on his team’s resilience, drawing parallels with their title challenge from two years ago: “It feels like we’re in that space again.”
