“I don’t know anything” – Manager pleads ignorance despite claims player sold to Chelsea

Sporting Club de Portugal manager Rui Borges has insisted he knows nothing about Geovany Quenda’s reported move to Chelsea.

[O Jogo cover comments](https://www.ojogo.pt/1884287564/rui-borges-quenda-e-natural-que-falem-dele-para-grandes-clubes/) from the Sporting manager today as reports continue to link Quenda with a move to Chelsea.

Several from Portugal today have insisted that the deal taking the highly rated youngster to Chelsea has already been done this week.

The Blues are reportedly paying a €51m base fee for the winger which could go as high as €100m if various bonuses are met. Quenda has apparently already undergone a medical at Stamford Bridge ahead of the move.

He, though, will reportedly not be moving to Chelsea anytime soon, with a plan in place for him to remain at Sporting this season and then next season before heading to London next summer.

Either way, the belief is that the deal is done and signed, and Chelsea have secured the youngster after a push this week to put themselves ahead of Manchester United.

It seems Borges doesn’t want to confirm the speculation or even add to it, refusing to comment either way when asked about it during his press conference today.

_“Quenda is growing rapidly, and it is natural that big clubs are talking about him,”_ he said.

_“He’s a boy who will have to learn to live with this. I can’t confirm anything until the club gives that guarantee because I don’t know anything either._

_“I didn’t specifically talk about that (leaving). It’s something he has to learn to live with, he’s 17 years old and growing quickly and it’s natural given what he’s been able to do at Sporting that he’s linked to many clubs._

_“As much as we want to help with this mental growth, this affects a person in their 20s and 30s. How are you not going to mess with a 17-year-old?”_

Pressed on the move to Chelsea, he said: _“I spoke in general terms. I don’t know anything specifically. I’m focused on now and then, in due time, we’ll decide, and we’ll see what happens next season._

_“I believe most of the squad will stay. But I’m more focused on what they can do for those two and a half months until the end of the season.”_
