Alexander Isak joined Bruno Guimaraes on media duties this morning as Newcastle United step up their final preparations for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

The Swede has been our star man this season and has fast become the most feared Premier League striker, with only Mo Salah and Erling Haaland outscoring the former Real Sociedad forward this season.

His form has added to inevitable interest and some of that transfer talk was discussed in this morning’s press conference,  with Isak also setting the record straight on his fitness and contract situation.

Alexander Isak insists he is “happy” at the club and not particularly interested in talking about his future, although talks over a new deal have not begun with summer talks on the cards.

Despite ongoing links to Arsenal and Sunday’s opponents Liverpool, the striker insists that he has the chance to win things at Newcastle; who he believes are “contenders for titles.”

On his contract, Isak admits “no talks have been held yet”, but hints that a new deal can wait until the end of the season as the club prepare for Wembley and a push for Champions League football.

Isak said: “I’ve said many times I don’t look too much at my future. I am happy here and we’re contenders for titles, which is what you want as a football player. “The chances are there (to win things).”

“Yeh, as I’ve said, I’m not thinking about the summer, but that will be a talking point when the season is finished. “No talks have been held yet.”

There has been concerns over Isak’s groin over the past few weeks after he was forced off against Brighton with “tightness”, but the player himself insists he’s never been injured and was simply suffering from a bit of tiredness,

He “feels good” for the final and is fully fit, with Howe confirming this morning that he has no new issues to contend with heading into Sunday’s game

“I have not been injured,” Isak said. “I have just had a bit of tiredness. It (concerns round his fitness) has been dramatic.”

“I feel good. I am really excited for the game. The best way to prepare is to train as normal. It will come down to what we do as a team, and that is all we can focus on. I am excited but focused on the job.

“I just want to be the best version of myself. I have high ambitions. I am trying to create my own history at Newcastle. Happy with what I have done so far but always looking forward.

“It’s hard work and training and the mentality to want to get better. I have ambitions to achieve in my career and be the best version of myself.”
